Algorithm predicts optimal settings for pallidal DBS in patients with dystonia

Researchers in Germany have developed an algorithm to predict the optimal settings for pallidal deep brain stimulation (DBS) that could lead to better symptom control for patients with dystonia.

DBS of the internal globus pallidus is a standard treatment for dystonia. However, the overall efficacy of this approach is limited by lengthy programming sessions, delays in symptom control, and a lack of markers to predict treatment response.
