Neurofilament light chain is increased in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1

Patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) have increased levels of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL), researchers say.

Involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) has been observed in patients with DM1, according to researchers in Rome, Italy. This may include intellectual disability in pediatric cases and changes in behavior and cognition in adults.
