Nogo receptor 1 expression in glioblastoma modulates myelin-associated infiltration

  • Nogo receptor 1 (NgR1) is involved in suppressing myelin-associated infiltration in glioblastoma (GBM) and low NgR1 expression was associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with GBM. In a mouse model of GBM, pimozide treatment increased NgR1 expression and reduced infiltration in tumor tissue.

Why this matters

In GBM, the most aggressive primary brain tumor, cells have the ability to invade brain structures using myelinated axon fibers as one of the main migratory routes. Enhancing the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying myelin-associated infiltration of GBM cells may reveal novel therapeutic targets for treatment of patients with GBM.
