Optical coherence tomography detects trans-synaptic degeneration in retrochiasmal lesions

In patients with retrochiasmal lesions, optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used to detect trans-synaptic degeneration, new data suggest.

According to researchers at the Coimbra University Hospital Center in Coimbra, Portugal, abnormal OCT findings that may indicate TD include thinning of the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer and/or the ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCL-IPL).
