New genes were identified that may be linked to Alzheimer’s disease (AD), according to researchers at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
To identify the genes, the researchers used a novel approach that combined data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and proteomic studies. They analyzed proteomes from 376 patients with a broad spectrum of neurodegeneration and cognitive decline and integrated the results with data from a recent GWAS of more than 450,000 patients.
The analysis focused on proteins that were present in abundance and variants located in or near the genes coding for abundant proteins.
