Using whole-body MRI (WBMRI), researchers have characterized long-term growth changes in schwannomas in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) and schwannomatosis (SWN).
“NF2 and SWN are related but distinct tumor predisposition syndromes caused by germline pathogenic variants on chromosome 22,” said Dr Ina Ly of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. “The long-term growth behavior of schwannomas is unknown, but this knowledge could help guide patient surveillance and selection for treatment.”
